Assistant Teaching Professor in Psychology
The Department of Psychology invites applications for a fixed-term Assistant Teaching Professor in Psychology, commencing 1 September 2026 (available sooner if possible).
About the Role
The successful candidate will hold an academic position in a discipline within Psychology, with:
- Proven higher/further education teaching experience and demonstrated academic interest/expertise in developing inclusive teaching practices within the field.
- A PhD in a relevant subject and strong evidence of teaching excellence, alongside experience tailoring courses to support diverse learner backgrounds.
This is a two-year fixed-term post, subject to probatient completion (one-year probation). Based in Cambridge, the role will leverage collaboration with the Natural Sciences Tripos (Biology)—indicating a core interdisciplinary focus.

Key Responsibilities
The pilot project has two pillars:
Year 1
- Conduct a review of 1st & 2nd-year undergraduate Psychology/Behavioural Science learning objectives at Cambridge.
- Assess students’ comprehension of these objectives with an emphasis on inclusive practices, especially for learners transitioning from ** rote-learning vs critical thinking-heavy school curricula** who may find university learning more challenging.
Year 2
- Integrate University event or course elements drawn from the Biology (Tripos) syllabus to foster shared pedagogical methods.
- Extend Project reach through collaborative initiatives with teaching staff and student affairs teams.
Requirements
- PhD in Psychology or related discipline.
- Demonstrable teaching excellence and commitment to accessibility/inclusive education (e.g. adaption of course design, flexible pedagogies).
- Willingness to engage with cross-departmental or tripos knowledge-sharing on student transition needs.
