Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organised and experienced Assistant Transport Manager to support our logistics and transportation operations.

Reporting directly to the Transport Manager, you will assist in the day-to-day management of our transport function and play a key role in ensuring the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of our fleet.

The current fleet consists of more than 30 vehicles operating across London, with further expansion planned in the near future, including the introduction of larger vehicles. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and detail-oriented individual to contribute to the continued growth and development of our transport operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily transport operations to ensure efficient and compliant fleet performance.
  • Lead, support, and motivate drivers across multiple locations.
  • Improve route planning and delivery efficiency to reduce costs and enhance service levels.
  • Utilise and support the development of route planning systems and processes.
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance, servicing, inspections, and fleet availability.
  • Ensure compliance with Operator Licence requirements and transport regulations.
  • Monitor transport performance, including delivery times, vehicle utilisation, and driver performance.
  • Handle transport-related incidents and resolve operational issues promptly.
  • Support driver recruitment, onboarding, training, and development.
  • Promote driver engagement and retention through effective communication and performance management.
  • Assist with fleet expansion and the ongoing development of transport operations.

Skills

  • Previous experience in a Transport Management or similar role.
  • Valid Transport Manager CPC qualification.
  • Experience managing a multi-drop distribution operation.
  • Strong knowledge of fleet management, vehicle compliance, and transport legislation.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with experience producing reports and analysing operational data and KPIs.
  • Proven experience leading, managing, and developing driver teams.
  • Strong reporting and analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends and drive improvements.
  • Proactive and hands-on approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced transport and logistics environment.

  • Experience within FMCG, food distribution, or temperature-controlled logistics.
  • Experience working within a growing or scaling operation.
