Assistant Transport Planner – Oxford

An opportunity with an award-winning, fast-growing consultancy to join an expanding team in Oxford as an Assistant Transport Planner.

This inaugural role is perfect for a professional with 18 months+ experience in transport planning, wishing to progress their career in a collaborative and supportive environment. Experienced mentors will guide you as you develop technical expertise, gain real-world project exposure, and make meaningful contributions.


About the Role

  • Support senior transport planners in small-to-medium transport planning projects, with a focus on planning, coordination, and programme management
  • Ideal for professionals early in their careers, where growth and mentorship are priorities
  • Join a strong pipeline of work, offering clear progression alongside diverse project experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in project delivery:
    • Support the coordination and programme management of small-to-medium transport planning projects as part of the team
  • Report writing and technical contributions:
    • Prepare and review sections of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Access Appraisals, and Technical Notes
    • Contribute to the credibility and clarity of project documentation
  • On-site fieldwork & research:
    • Understand and support site visits, contributing input to scheme development and improving technical outputs
  • Technical software proficiency:
    • Utilise modelling and drafting tools, including:
      • AutoCAD
      • TRICS
      • Moba’ll Junctions (ARCADY, PICADY), or similar
  • Collaborative project engagements:
    • Attend project team, client, and Local Highway Authority meetings in-month and contribute as part of varied client engagements
  • Community consultation support:
    • Aid in preparing materials for public consultations, ensuring regulated broadband and regulatory compliance language usage
  • External relationship building:
    • Engage with architects, planners, and highways officers, fostering communication between internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Proposal/quoting assistance:
    • Help develop fee proposals and accompanying quotation documentation based on workload distribution

Skills & Experience Required

  • Education:
    • Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience:
    • 18+ months’ hands-on experience in transport planning
    • Familiarity with UK transport planning guidance and policies
  • Technical proficiency:
    • AutoCAD and site management/tools (TRICS, Moba’ll Junctions – ARCADY/PICADY)
  • Communication & soft skills:
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills to support project reporting
    • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external teams
    • Self-motivation accompanied by disciplined workload management
    • Practical UK-based awareness of Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) guidance
