Assistant Underwriter – London, UK

As an Assistant Underwriter you will support the Underwriters in the region in all tasks related to the underwriting and administration support. You will work closely with our Underwriters, supporting them in their activities associated with renewals, maintenance of the accounts and with models and systems. As a keen team player, you will assist the team in data quality assurance and continuous development of best practice in Business Services. You will utilize your excellent communication and relationship-building skills as you work closely with underwriters, clients and various functions and departments within the company.


Key Responsibilities

This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Underwriting (within defined limits) under guidance, preparing individual cases for pricing and modelling, liaising with Actuaries to deliver technical pricing to Underwriter; using modelling systems to aid the underwriting process; conducting research as requested by Underwriter.
  • Operating within defined authority levels commensurate with skills and knowledge, subject to periodic review.
  • Conducting pre-underwriting for renewals, handling endorsements on active business, analysing new business requests, and following up on renewals.
  • Preparing monthly reports for the Underwriting team.
  • Entering information into underwriting systems to support decision-making.
  • Developing an internal network to facilitate information and data exchange across functions and departments to service client and underwriter requirements.
  • Assisting the business group in maintaining and developing the book of business, while developing skills and authority for profitable account underwriting.
  • Aligning with AXA XL’s strategy and financial targets, contributing to individual targets and business plan delivery.
  • Attending internal and external meetings with clients and brokers to discuss account management.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone who can deliver the following with confidence:

  • Strong analytical skills, quick problem-solving, and disciplined work approach.
  • Comfortable with personal responsibility while remaining a collaborative team player.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an interest in business development.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Relevant professional designations (or progressing towards them) are highly valued.
    • Professional development will be required for those without existing designations.
