Assistant Underwriter (Construction) | High-growth InsurTech MGA | Remote/Hybrid | £40K – £55K + bonus and great progression/learning

About the Company

Our client is a modern, technology-enabled insurance MGA who are looking for an innovative thinker to help us develop niche insurance products that meet the changing needs of our partners. They work at 100mph and are looking for someone who's wanting to supercharge their insurance career.

Our client specialises in data-centric risk intelligence and are building something that will revolutionise the construction insurance space. We need an underwriter who thrives in an environment where underwriting expertise meets operational agility, and where their intelligence and expertise will be properly put to use.

About the Role

Reporting directly to our Underwriting Lead, you will oversee the evaluation and onboarding of specialty insurance programs. We aren't just looking for someone to process files; we want an innovative mindset that can help refine our risk appetite and support our commercial expansion.

You will utilise the latest technology to work efficiently and make smarter, data-driven decisions across our portfolio. Whether your background is in Construction or SME settings, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our underwriting intent is consistently documented and applied.

Responsibilities

  • Sourcing, evaluating, and onboarding new insurance opportunities with a focus on technical excellence.
  • Support broader business goals by identifying new ways to expand the partnership book.
  • Conduct thorough qualitative and quantitative analysis of program profitability and risks.
  • Work cross-functionally with operations and product teams to streamline internal workflows.
  • Assist in maintaining and refining underwriting manuals and appetite statements.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in Construction underwriting, ideally within an SME or MGA setting. InsurTech understanding is really important here as well.
  • Strong multi-line product knowledge and familiarity with DA oversight.
  • Familiarity with building and retaining broker relationships.
  • A data-driven approach with high attention to detail regarding pricing and compliance.
  • You understand why insurance organisations care about loss ratios and can translate that into smart underwriting.
  • A track record of testing, learning, and pivoting to help an organisation explore new markets.
