Assistant Underwriter – Household & Personal Lines

Location & Working Arrangements
Pen Underwriting (Liphook Office) is looking for an Assistant Underwriter to join the Household & Personal Lines team.
- Based in Liphook
- Flexible hybrid model (Mon-Fri, 9am–5pm)
Key Responsibilities
Under collaborative guidance from senior underwriters, you’d:
- Support new business underwriting for household and personal insurance policies.
- Review risk submissions, prepare documentation, and assist in underwriting decisions aligned with portfolio guidelines.
- Process renewals, mid-term adjustments, and cancellations efficiently.
- Engage with brokers to build trust—responding professionally and improving service quality.
- Monitor portfolio performance via data analysis and reporting.
- Identify risk trends, anomalies, and escalatable issues.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting policies and regulatory requirements.
- Foster process improvements to sharpen team and business efficiency.

What We’re Looking For
- Preferred: Experience in underwriting, broking, or insurance—especially household/personal lines (delegated authority preferred but not essential).
- Must-haves:
- Analytical mindset with safe handling of data and documentation.
- Precision (strong attention to detail).
- Proactive attitude for learning and progression.
- Soft skills essential:
- Clear and professional communication.
- Ability to build team relationships with brokers and internal colleagues.
- Organisational abilities to balance multiple priorities.
- Tech competency:
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word.
Preferences:
- CII qualifications (or a commitment to pursuing them).
- Alignment with a client-focused mindset.
