Role Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Assistant Underwriter to join our growing International Commercial Property team through defined administrative responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have 1 – 2 years’ experience in General Insurance; however a recent graduate / college leaver with strong numerical proficiency and keen to learn would also be considered for the role.

Job Description

  • Assess, analyze, and underwrite treaty and/or facultative reinsurance submissions.
  • Evaluate risk exposures, loss history, and modeling outputs to determine appropriate pricing and terms.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers and cedants to secure profitable business.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with clients, brokers, and business partners to discuss new transactions.
  • Monitor and manage the performance of assigned accounts and portfolio.
  • Prepare underwriting reports, presentations, and documentation for internal approval processes.
  • Ensure that Underwriting files are complete and accurate.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build trust and long-term relationships.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);
  • Knowledge of underwriting systems is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong business acumen and market awareness.

Further Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Finance, Business, Economics, Actuarial Science, or a related field is an advantage.
  • Professional insurance / reinsurance qualification (e.g., CII, CPCU, ARe), or working towards one, would be beneficial.
  • Experience in insurance / reinsurance underwriting (treaty or facultative) or keen to learn.
