Assistant Underwriter – Graduate/Entry-Level Role

Based in Bradford, our underwriting team is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Underwriter, offering an outstanding opportunity for graduates or early-career professionals to kickstart or accelerate their career in the insurance sector.
About the Role
This position provides hands-on experience and clear development pathways for candidates eager to establish themselves in insurance underwriting. If you have:
- Gained exposure to underwriting through internships or coursework
- Worked in insurance-related fields
- A keen interest in joining the insurance industry,

Key Responsibilities:
- Data & Reporting:
- Assist with data analysis and underwriting reporting using Excel
- Prepare and maintain underwriting reports for internal review

Broker & Client Relations:
- Support effective communication with brokers and clients
- Ensure timely responses to inquiries and develop sound relationships

Research & Strategy:
- Identify new business opportunities
- Monitor market trends to inform future decisions

Portfolio & Pricing:
- Provide support in reviewing and advising on high-value portfolios exceeding multi-million-pound valuations
- Contribute insights to pricing strategies and underwriting strategy

Regulatory Compliance:
- Aid in compliance and regulatory processes
- Support adherence to relevant regulations and underwriting best practices
Requirements
Education & Background

Strong academic background in numerate or business-focused disciplines:
- Mathematics
- Sciences (e.g., Chemistry/Physics)
- Economics
- Actuarial Science
- Business degrees

Experience preferred but not mandatory:
- Up to 1–2 years of prior experience in insurance-related roles
- Any exposure to underwriting or financial services advantageous but not essential
Skills & Qualities
- Analytical expertise with comfort manipulating and performing calculations on complex data sets
- Strong proficiency in Excel (advanced functions, reports, and data analysis)
- Excel reporting capabilities to deliver clear, actionable insights
