Job Summary
The Assistant Unit Welfare Officer (AUWO) is responsible to the DSEME Unit Welfare Officer (UWO), for providing welfare support and advice to all DSEME officers, soldiers and their dependants.
When required the AUWO will brief the Commanding Officer (CO) and the Unit CoC on specific welfare cases, liaise with military and civilian Welfare agencies on behalf of the CO and represent the UWO at Garrison Welfare Meetings.
Remain up to date with current welfare policies and procedures, while managing clear and accurate case files in full compliance with the Code of Confidentiality and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
The AUWO 2 will provide first line Welfare advice and support to soldiers and their families within DSEME based at Lyneham. Provide briefings to the Commanding Officer and Unit Chain of Command on specific welfare cases as required, offering informed advice and attending Vulnerability Risk Management case conferences. They will liaise with relevant civilian and military Welfare agencies on behalf of the Commanding Officer and stay up to date with current welfare policies and procedures, ensuring case files are maintained accurately and concisely in accordance with relevant policy, confidentiality standards, and GDPR regulations. The AUWO 2 will also provide assistance and advice to the CO and the Chain of Command on preventative measures relating to incidents of self harm and suicide in conjunction with external and internal Welfare agencies.
Provide support to non-UK personnel throughout the visa application process, ensuring guidance is clear, accurate, and aligned with current immigration requirements.

Person specification
The successful candidate will be a highly principled individual with strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision. They will demonstrate excellent communication and presentation abilities, alongside a thorough understanding of confidentiality protocols and data protection regulations.
Previous experience in welfare-related roles, with a solid understanding of military structures and operations. Skilled in collaboration, people management, effective communication, influencing others, and applying analytical thinking supported by evidence-based decision-making. Basic IT qualifications, along with training in active listening, bereavement and loss, and other relevant welfare-related courses.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
