Assistant Vice President for Talent, Culture, and Human Resources

St. Ambrose University and the Mount Mercy University campus seek a strategic and collaborative leader to serve as Assistant Vice President for Talent, Culture, and Human Resources. This senior leadership role oversees all HR functions across a growing multi-institution university network.

The AVP will partner closely with executive leadership to drive talent excellence, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and foster a high-performing, mission-driven culture across institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on workforce strategy, organizational design, and talent initiatives
  • Lead a comprehensive talent strategy including recruitment, onboarding, retention, succession planning, and leadership development
  • Oversee employee experience initiatives, engagement strategies, and employee relations processes
  • Direct total rewards programs, including compensation, benefits, and workforce planning
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, Title IX, EEO)
  • Optimize HR operations, systems, and analytics across multiple campuses
  • Lead organizational development, performance management, and professional development programs
  • Provide leadership for HR teams across institutions and support future growth and integration opportunities

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in talent management, organizational development, and employment law compliance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Proven ability to influence and partner with executive leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (MBA, MHR, or related field)
  • Higher education, nonprofit, or multi-entity experience
  • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent certification
  • Experience leading HR functions across multiple campuses or organizations
