Assistant Voice Officer – Families First Programme, Sandwell Children's Trust

About The Role

Our Assistant Voice Officer will directly engage with vulnerable children and young people across key Sandwell programmes:

  • Families First
  • Children in Need (CIN) and Child Protection (CP)
  • Children and Young People with SEND

You’ll build trusting, empowering relationships, ensuring children feel safe, heard, and respected. Their voices will drive individual care planning improvement and wider service transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct Engagement
    • Conduct participation work including home visits
    • Develop creative and flexible methods to gather children’s voices (e.g., creative activities, digital tools)
  • Support & Advocacy
    • Assist children in engaging with leaders, decision-makers, and forums
    • Facilitate groups, activities, and events designed for meaningful participation
  • Collaboration
    • Work alongside social workers, Families First teams, SEND specialists, and partner agencies to embed voice-led practice
  • Reporting & Influence
    • Accurately record children’s feedback for reports and service improvement
    • Contribute to co-design and co-production efforts in partnership with young people
  • Embedding Participation
    • Support practitioners in delivering meaningful participation in their work
    • Develop resources (e.g., toolkits, visible tools) to promote children’s rights and active involvement

About You

We’re seeking someone passionate about children’s rights and empowering young voices, particularly for those in vulnerable and marginalised communities.

You’ll have:

  • Proven experience working directly with children (e.g., within Families First, CIN, CP, or SEND services)
  • Strong communication & adaptability—skilled in supporting different abilities, needs, and communication styles
  • Relationship-building expertise—able to foster trust and respect in vulnerable populations
  • A commitment to participation—advocating for children’s voices in all decision-making processes
  • Resilience & empathy, with inclusive practice at heart
  • Clear written and digital proficiency, including data entry and report creation
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification or evident experience with children and young people
