Job Summary
St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School is seeking an Assistant Volleyball Coach for the 2026–2027 school year. The Assistant Coach fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by developing, initiating, and administering the volleyball program, ensuring student athletes are adequately prepared for interscholastic competition. This position is recommended by the Director of Athletics, hired by the President, and reports to the Director of Athletics. The Principal evaluates performance in consultation with the Director of Athletics.
Ministerial Character
St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School is canonically obedient to the Bishop of Austin and supports his pastoral ministry. Employees—including the Assistant Volleyball Coach—are entrusted with Christ’s mission within the school community, modelling Gospel values and engaging in ministry for the Church.
Essential Duties
- Supports the philosophy of Catholic education and the school’s mission
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values through modelling Catholic Church teachings
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct of the school and Diocese of Austin
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Models professional conduct and sportsmanship while instilling these values in team members
- Coordinates practice sessions and games according to local diocesan policies, school bylaws, and league regulations
- Schedules practices and games in consultation with the Head Coach and Athletic Director
- Ensures student eligibility through completion of:
- Physical examinations
- Release-of-liability forms
- Student athlete registration
- Monitors athlete physical condition and fitness, reporting Injuries promptly to parents and administrators
- Supervises all activities during practices and games
- Teaches essential safety skills and game strategies; ensures compliance with Diocesan safety guidelines
- Prioritises academic eligibility, safety protocols, and transportation rules in alignment with school and Diocesan policies
- Manages distribution and collection of athletic equipment and uniforms
- Communicates with Athletic staff regarding field/gym access and early dismissals
- Ensures emergency contact information is accessible at all official activities
- Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, appearance, and time management
- Engages with student athletes by:
- Teaching proper strategies, skills, and rules
- Motivating performance as individuals and as a team
- Applying corrective and positive discipline techniques
- Encouraging teamwork and optimal performance
- Collaborates with school staff to enhance the educational environment
- Conducts parent conferences upon request; responds promptly to communication

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of the Catholic Church’s fundamental teachings
- Understanding of adolescent development, fitness protocols, and sport skills
- Expertise in volleyball fundamentals, strategies, and competitions
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to work effectively with school staff, students, and parents
- Multitasking skills to manage competing priorities and deadlines
- Leadership skills to motivate and engage student athletes
- Competence in organising information and accessing sports-related technology
- Problem-solving and critical thinking to adapt to rapidly changing situations
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:
- Previous coaching or playing experience in volleyball
- Familiarity with interscholastic competition (preferred, not mandatory)
Certifications & Training:
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Current CPR certification and First Aid training
- Completion of:
- Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application within the first week of employment
- EIM Basic Abuse Prevention Training workshop within 60 days of EIM submission
- Ongoing EIM compliance throughout the contract period
Working Conditions
- All employees engage in ministry under the direction of school leadership.
- Employment is at-will—based on performance contractual guarantees are non-existent.
- Fast-paced environment with dynamic scheduling changes to accommodate practices and games.
- Evening, weekend, and holiday work required.
- Exposure to Christian prayers and Catholic liturgical celebrations (staff meetings take place with Christian prayer).
- Strict adherence to dress codes and conduct standards.
- All facility-related no-smoking policies apply.
- Personal or school-provided vehicles may be used to transport athletes/equipment.
- Regular attendance at school-sponsored off-site events (travel may extend 24+ hours).
- Must align schedule with the availability of students and school officials.

All staff members commit to:
- Observing the Catholic Schools Standards of Conduct and policy of the Diocese of Austin
- Conforming to the Romantic Catholic moral and ethical teachings as interpreted by the Bishop of Austin.
- Committing that this employment agreement is within Texas employment law, which is “at-will.”
- Religious ceremonies (prayers, baptisms, etc.) may be required at school-related events.
