Role: Join the Water Department, Plant Operations Division as an Assistant Water Systems Superintendent.
Key Responsibilities
The Assistant Water Systems Superintendent works closely with the Superintendent to:
- Oversee operational and maintenance activities across:
- 6 water treatment plants
- Collections and distribution systems
- HVAC infrastructure
- Wholesale metering operations
- Core functions include:
- Supervising staff (performance evaluations, training, hiring, discipline).
- Collaboration: Engaging with external partners, divisions, consultants, and contractors.
- Compliance: Ensuring efficient, regulatory-compliant, and budgetary operations.
- Technical guidance for senior leadership on safety, modern practices, and accountability.
- Leadership priorities:
- Budget management: Forecasting funds for staff, equipment, materials, and supplies; overseeing contracts and expenditures.
- Innovation: Researching new technologies, equipment, and processes.
- Quality assurance: Reviewing designs and recommendations for builds/maintenance.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Associate’s degree (accredited) in civil engineering, chemistry, biology, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Five years of progressive experience in water/wastewater operations (including two years of supervisory responsibility).
- Licensing/Other:
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- TCEQ Class C Wastewater/Surface Water Treatment Operator License preferred.
- Reciprocity: Out-of-state applicants must obtain a Texas license within six months of hiring.
Preferred Qualifications
- Seven years in water/wastewater treatment/collections (including three years supervisory).
Work Environment
Position spans physical and environmental challenges:
- Physical demands: Heavy lifting (up to 20 lbs occasionally), standing/sitting, climbing, and exposure to chemicals/odors in high-noise settings.
- Regional considerations: Intense heat, varying lighting, restricted spaces, and mechanical hazards common in plant/fieldwork.
- Work categorization: Light Work.
