About Your Team
You will work closely with the Utilities team and wider group of like-minded professionals on exciting and challenging multi-disciplinary projects.
The Building Services team in London consists of over 150 Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health engineers, supported by:
- Local, regional, and international experts
- An extensive technical library and specifications
- Collaborative office spaces at our Chancery Lane office (with easy commuting and amenities nearby).
Key Responsibilities
The role involves coordinating and managing utilities risks, costs, and programmes across all projects. Key duties include:
- Specialised experience in capacity constraints, protracted reinforcement, diversionary works, and the open utility marketplace.
- Leading consultancy work for clients on technical utilities matters, delivering innovative solutions that integrate utilities constraints and opportunities into project proposals.
- Managing utility works from concept, masterplanning to detailed design, balancing technical, risk, commercial, and deliverable perspectives.
- Overseeing utility infrastructure from project concept to electrical, gas, water, and telecommunications systems across development schemes.
- Coordination with Multi-Utility providers, ICP/IDNO projects, and NAV (New entrusted apparatus variables) opportunities, along with their commercial risks and potential.
- Schematic design and delivery of innovative, low-carbon utility solutions aligned with future city strategies.
- Collaborating with industry bodies to establish best practices in smart cities and net-zero infrastructure.

Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Leading utility projects from local schemes to nationally significant developments.
- Managing multi-disciplinary UK teams and coordinating project delivery for utility infrastructure.
- Serving as the senior technical advisor for clients and design teams on key projects.
- Growing the client board with existing and new business development.
- Mentoring and developing junior team members.
- Maintaining quality service standards and upholding WSP’s professional reputation.
- Ensuring commercial awareness, project/programme management, and efficient problem-solving.
Essential Requirements
To excel in this role, you should demonstrate:
- A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
- Proven experience in utility portfolio management for technical and commercial delivery.
- Technical expertise in:
- Utility disconnections, diversionary works, and new supply infrastructure (with strategies for UK projects).
- Electricity, gas, water, and telecommunications network management across development schemes.
- Multi-Utility/NAV/ICP/IDNO operations and commercial opportunities.
- Utility legislation governing electricity, water, gas, and fibre.
- Proven leadership in:
- Leading multi-project teams with effective organisation and time management.
- Graphical and reporting communication to clients and professionals.
- Independent initiative with minimal supervision on technical disciplines.
- BIM team direction (AutoCAD, Civils 3D, Revit) for quality project models.
- Client relationship management skills (existing and new business development).
- Ability to meet UK security clearance requirements (SC level).
- Regional expertise in promoting WSP’s capabilities.
