Vacancy – Associate Audiologist

About the Role
An opportunity has arisen within the Audiology Service to assist in providing a high-quality Audiology service to the population of North Wales served by BCUHB.
This role is based primarily within the Adult Audiology Service, with some duties carried out in outpatient clinics across the BCUHB area. There is a need to train and supervise junior clinical staff where appropriate. The base location will be confirmed.
Ideal for: Assistant Audiologists, Audiology students nearing completion of their training, or those looking to develop clinical and service delivery skills in a collaborative environment.
The Associate Healthcare Scientist in Audiology will provide interventions for patients with routine/non-complex hearing pathologies. Their role will be supervisory, working alongside (not independently) qualified Audiologists and adhering to clinical guidance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Hearing testing
- Fitting of hearing aids
- Otoscopy
- Taking aural impressions
- Collaborating in care planning
The current ability to speak Welsh is desirable, though applicants competent in English are welcome.

Key Duties
The role involves routine diagnostic and therapeutic interventions under supervision. Education, training, and professional development in specified areas are expected.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
- Foundation degree in Audiology or Certificate of Higher Education in Audiology (or equivalent level).
Desirable:
- Qualification in science-related subjects (e.g., A Level).
Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience of clinical teamwork in a healthcare role.

Desirable:
- Audiology clinical practice, or history of working with patients with hearing impairments.
Skills
Essential:
- Ability to communicate effectively with hearing-impaired patients (all ages) and their carers.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Manual dexterity (moving patients using wheelchairs within the Audiology Department).
Desirable:
- Skilled use of fine tools (e.g., jeweller’s screwdrivers) and programming hearing aid cables.
- Knowledge of deafness awareness principles.
Knowledge
Essential:
- Understanding of impact of hearing impairment on patient experiences.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and workload effectively.
- Skill in information absorption and application to clinical practice.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with:
- Audiology protocols
- Patient information systems (PiMS, PAS)
Personal Qualities
Essential:
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable:
- Ability to support discussions in or with Welsh (affirmative management of @bilingual policies).
