About The Role

As one of the largest teams of Chartered Surveyors in the property sector, with over 100 Building Surveyors operating across the UK, our Cambridge Building Surveying team is continuing to grow and has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Associate Building Surveyor.

Working alongside established Project Management and Building Services Engineering teams, you will play a key role in the leadership and growth of the Cambridge office, delivering high-quality Building Surveying services to a diverse client base across the education, commercial office, industrial, healthcare, retail and residential sectors.

This is a senior leadership position suited to an ambitious Chartered Surveyor who combines strong technical expertise with proven client relationship, business development and team management skills. You will lead commissions, develop client accounts, mentor surveyors and support the strategic growth of the Building Surveying team in Cambridge.

Key Responsibilities

Client and Project Delivery

  • Lead the delivery of professional and project-led Building Surveying instructions across a broad range of sectors.
  • Act as Project Lead and Lead Consultant, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and ensuring successful project outcomes.
  • Deliver a full range of Building Surveying services, including:
    • Contract Administration
    • Technical Due Diligence
    • Building Pathology and Defect Diagnosis
    • Dilapidations
    • Schedules of Condition
    • Planned Preventative Maintenance
    • Reinstatement Cost Assessments
    • Design, Specification and Refurbishment Projects
  • Ensure projects are delivered to programme, budget and quality expectations.
  • Maintain a strong focus on commercial performance, profitability and risk management.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Support the leadership and development of the Cambridge Building Surveying team.
  • Mentor, coach and develop surveyors at all levels, assisting with APC progression and career development.
  • Set clear objectives and hold team members accountable for delivery and performance.
  • Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the business.
  • Foster a positive, high-performing and client-focused team culture.

Business Development and Growth

  • Build and maintain strong long-term client relationships.
  • Identify and secure opportunities for repeat business and new client appointments.
  • Support the preparation of fee proposals, presentations and bids.
  • Attend networking events, seminars and conferences to promote the business and expand professional networks.
  • Contribute to the strategic growth of the Building Surveying team and wider Cambridge office.
  • Support innovation and encourage teams to identify opportunities to add value for clients.

Quality and Technical Excellence

  • Provide technical leadership and quality assurance across project and professional work.
  • Ensure reports, specifications and project documentation are produced to the highest standard.
  • Influence project teams and stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Promote best practice, governance and compliance across all commissions.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional and business improvement.

What You Need to Do to Be Effective in This Role

Essential

Skills and Experience

  • Chartered Member or Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS or FRICS).
  • Significant post-qualification experience within Building Surveying consultancy.
  • Proven experience leading professional and project-based Building Surveying commissions.
  • Strong technical knowledge across core Building Surveying disciplines.
  • Experience managing client relationships and developing business opportunities.
  • Experience mentoring and managing surveying teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and financial management capability.
  • Full UK driving licence.
