EM Law is a modern commercial law firm based in Shoreditch, London, advising clients in the UK and overseas on a broad range of business law matters. The firm’s lawyers have diverse backgrounds, with many bringing partner-level and senior in-house experience from national and City law firms. EM Law focuses on impressing clients by combining legal expertise with practical problem solving and commercial strategy support. The firm works with individuals, SMEs, large commercial organisations, and state-funded entities. Chambers and Partners have ranked us band 1 for the work that we do for SMEs.
Role Description
This full-time, on-site Associate Commercial Lawyer role is based in our office at White Collar Factory in Old Street and involves supporting clients on a wide range of commercial legal matters. The associate will:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts, with a particular emphasis on technology and AI
- Provide clear, pragmatic advice on data protection and general commercial issues
- Support the team on corporate work (mergers and acquisitions)
- Manage client files
- Conduct legal research
- Prepare precedents and templates
- Contribute to risk mitigation and commercial strategy discussions

All with the support of an academically strong paralegal who the successful candidate will help bring on with their development. The role also involves:
- Liaising directly with clients
- Attending meetings
- Collaborating with senior lawyers on complex matters
- Networking and helping grow the business
Qualifications
- At least 2 years PQE with qualification as a solicitor in England and Wales and experience in commercial or corporate practice. For exceptional candidates at junior level we will also consider individuals with a litigation background who want to switch to non-contentious work.
- Proficiency in commercial contracts, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on a wide range of agreements.
- Experience providing clear, business-focused legal advice to a diverse client base, including SMEs and larger organisations.
- Knowledge of AI, data privacy and information governance, including UK GDPR and related regulatory requirements.
- Excellent analytical, research, and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Client-focused mindset, with the ability to build relationships, manage expectations, and contribute to commercial strategy discussions.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small, high-performing team and to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior experience in a national, City, or high-quality boutique firm, or in-house commercial role, is an advantage.
