Content Developer

Career Architecture Role: Content Learning Specialist (CLS)

Career Architecture Tier: IC10

Location: Oxford or London (Hybrid)


Job Summary

As a Content Developer, you help create and develop products and services by balancing time, quality, and cost, ensuring they deliver intended learning outcomes. You will maintain editorial excellence throughout production stages, manage external suppliers, and utilise content tools to ensure all materials meet purpose and standards. This role is centred on technical editorial execution within the context of project delivery.


Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance:

    • Lead QA across content production stages, including copyediting, activity briefs, proofs, and screen checks.
    • Uphold "Right First Time" principles and adherence to Editorial Policy.
  • Content Evaluation:

    • Evaluate drafts and manuscripts to ensure compliance with pedagogical alignment to intended learning outcomes.
  • Supplier Management:

    • Collaborate with authors, consultants, and third-party suppliers—contributing to briefing, contracting, and QA of deliverables.

  • System Utilisation:

    • Manage day-to-day use of content creation tools, including XML templates and Content Management Systems (CMS).
  • Project Delivery:

    • Track business cases, budgets, and schedules to support on-time delivery, keeping Content Delivery Managers informed of adjustments.
  • Standards Compliance:

    • Ensure all developed products meet established quality benchmarks and internal editorial standards.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong experience in editorial workflows and content development, especially in science-focused or professional settings.
  • Proficiency with content creation tools and workflow systems, including XML, CMS, and project tracking tools.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, prioritising "Right First Time" delivery and quality control.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills—facilitating relationships with external authors and consultants.
  • Ability to assess manuscripts and technical drafts for pedagogical suitability.
  • Solid organisational skills to manage deliverables within budget and timelines.

Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Professional experience in editorial, content development, or instructional design roles.
  • A proven track record of content quality management and meeting project deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Linguistics, Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience).
