About the Department

Corporate and Securities law lies at the heart of Mayer Brown’s global practice, with over 300 lawyers across four continents advising on some of the most complex, high-value, and strategically significant transactions.

Responsibilities

The Opportunity: Associate – Corp (M&A / Private Equity)

1–3 post-qualification experience

As an Associate, you will:

  • Work on complex, cross-border, high-profile transactions across all private equity stages (fund formation, investments, portfolio management, exits).
  • Join a close-knit, collaborative team with an outstanding market reputation.
  • Take a truly commercial approach, blending technical expertise with deep insight into clients’ investment strategies.
  • Deliver pragmatic and innovative solutions—leveraging sector expertise and cutting-edge legal judgement.
  • Shape the next phase of London’s growing private equity practice, advising emerging European sponsors.

Key Tasks

  • Deal structures: Cross-border acquisitions and disposals
  • PE-specific roles: Leveraged buyouts (LBOs) and growth equity investments
  • Financing: Supporting arrangements with lenders and institutions
  • End-to-end lifecycle management: From initial structuring to completion and exit
  • Supplementary advice: Tax structuring, warranty & indemnity insurance, and ancillary matters
  • Industry exposure: Work across infrastructure, tech, life sciences, healthcare, energy, consumer, and financial services—building both sectoral and transactional depth

Requirements & Qualities

Experience & Background

A qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with 1–3 years PQE, or anticipated qualification.

Must-Have Attributes

  • Confident, collaborative, and thriving in a high-impact environment
  • Strong M&A experience, ideally at a leading law firm
  • Private equity exposure, including sponsor-side equity documentation
  • Beneficial (but not essential): ECM or public M&A experience
  • Commercial pragmatism: Distilling dense technical matters into clear, actionable advice
  • Interpersonal strength: Ability to build client relationships and align seamlessly with colleagues
  • Proactive mindset: Interest in business development and networking
  • Exceptional academics: Minimum 2:1 or equivalent

Pay Range

GBP £150,000 – £163,000 per year (adjustable based on individual circumstances and firm alignment).
