Associate Data Architect Role
Key Responsibilities
You will pursue excellence in data architecture, working closely with stakeholders and technical teams. Typical responsibilities include:
- Develop policies, frameworks, and architectural designs aligned with AXIS business goals
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Act as the bridge between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams
- Design logical/conceptual data models, ensuring consistency with AXIS data governance
- Lead proof-of-concept initiatives, evaluating emerging technologies (e.g., event streaming, AI)
- Collaborate in governance forums (data & analytics, wider architecture)
- Streamline healthcare data management (master/reference data, organisational alignment)
- Support cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks or equivalents)
- Evaluate evolving tools and recommend improvements
- Simplify existing architecture, reducing duplication and debt
- Advise on strategic direction (aligning data architecture with business goals)
Additional duties may be assigned as business needs evolve.
Who You’ll Report To
Serves under direct supervision of the Head of Data Architecture.
What You Bring to AXIS
We seek candidates with entrepreneurial ambition and hands-on technical expertise. Minimum requirements:
- 3-4 years’ experience in data design/architecture or related domains (preferably data modelling/enterprise data lake/warehouse but software engineering experience considered)
- Demonstrated data governance, integration, and quality experience
- Familiarity with Azure integration patterns (APIs, event streaming)
- Master Data Management (MDM) awareness
- Cloud experience (Databricks/Snowflake or equivalents)
- Relationship modeling expertise (entity-relationship diagrams)
- Understanding of metadata systems and data quality tools
- Strategic mindset – ability to connect architecture to business needs and corporate culture
- Curiosity mindset – eager to learn emerging technologies/practices
- Strong collaborative skills: working with business stakeholders and technical teams
- Ability to prioritise, adapt, and influence decisions contextual factors
- Technical and commercial storytelling skills (building partnership trust/wins)

- Deep knowledge of insurance underwriting data and applicative markets (UK, Bermuda, US)
- Technical proficiency in data architecture/data governance tools

- Competitive compensation: $70,000–$110,000 CAD (Halifax, Nova Scotia base)
