Associate Director, AI Engineering – Novo Nordisk (R&D)
Are you passionate about machine learning, AI, and data sciences? The Data & AI Engineering function is a global organisation within the R&D Business Unit at Novo Nordisk, shaping the data foundations and intelligent infrastructure, and next-generation agentic solutions across the organisation. Together, we can create life-changing innovations for patients.
The Position
As Associate Director, you will provide strategic engineering leadership for the development of scalable and robust AI products, including agentic applications for content authoring, knowledge management, and compliance automation. You will lead a portfolio spanning early research, pre-clinical, and clinical development, ensuring agentic AI initiatives progress from proof-of-value to production—with accountability for establishing data foundations and agentic AI infrastructure to support Novo Nordisk’s R&D AI ambitions, while driving business impact through cross-functional initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and drive the AI product infrastructure strategy for R&D, enabling an integrated ecosystem of agentic AI solutions.
- Ensure scalable and high-quality delivery of AI capabilities (data foundations, infrastructure, MLOps) with a focus on quality, traceability, risk management, and governance readiness, transforming scientific and operational data into trusted, scalable AI solutions that accelerate innovation and improve efficiency.
- Develop and execute short- and long-term AI engineering and data foundation strategies, aligning R&D and Enterprise AI priorities through internal partnerships and external collaborations.
- Drive cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders to remove complexity, accelerate AI adoption, and enable sustainable transformation across the organisation.
- Lead the delivery of technology innovation across a complex stakeholder and scientific landscape, balancing evolving business priorities to identify the highest-impact opportunities for AI adoption.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
