About the Role

The Data & AI Engineering function is a global organisation within the R&D Business Unit at Novo Nordisk, shaping the data foundations, intelligent infrastructure, and next-generation Agentic AI solutions across the organisation. Together, we create life-changing innovations for patients.

Position: Associate Director, AI Product Strategy & Engineering

As Associate Director, you will provide strategic engineering leadership for the development of scalable and robust AI products, including agentic applications for content authoring, knowledge management, and compliance automation. You will lead a portfolio spanning research, pre-clinical, and clinical development, ensuring agentic AI initiatives progress from proof-of-concept to production-ready solutions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing a data-driven AI infrastructure that supports Novo Nordisk's R&D AI ambitions.
  • Driving business impact by orchestrating cross-functional initiatives and stakeholder collaborations in a quality- and governance-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the AI infrastructure strategy to enable an integrated ecosystem of Agentic AI solutions for R&D.
  • Ensure robust and scalable AI capabilities, including data foundations, infrastructure, and MLOps, with scalability, data traceability, risk management, and governance at the heart of everything.
  • Transform scientific and operational data into trusted, AI-driven solutions that accelerate innovation, efficiency, and business strategy across R&D.
  • Develop and execute short- and long-term AI engineering strategies, aligning R&D priorities with enterprise-wide AI initiatives through internal partnerships and external collaborations.
  • Drive cross-functional initiatives to influence senior stakeholders, removing complexity, accelerating AI adoption, and enabling sustainable transformation.
  • Lead technology innovation across scientific environments, balancing evolving priorities while identifying the highest-impact AI deployment opportunities.

Qualifications

To thrive, we expect:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, or Data Engineering, particularly in developing scalable AI solutions.
  • Strong leadership experience, having successfully leaded AI/ML teams or consulted in a strategic AI capacity, proving capabilities in data engineering, AI/ML research & development, scaling AI technologies, and influencing business strategy.
  • Ability to:
    • Effectively engage with senior stakeholders by translating their business needs into AI and data strategies, operational quality, and governance frameworks.
    • Represent the company in external partnerships focused on agentic systems, AI platforms, and innovation.
  • A passionate style characterized by curiosity and collaboration, with open flair for innovation and learning.

About the Department

Join Novo Nordisk’s newly-formed AI Product Engineering team focused on enabling next-generation AI solutions across R&D. Partners closely with Data Science and AI stakeholders globally, shaping cloning, MLOps, data management, security principles, and scalable AI platforms that drive impactful AI adoption in revolutionizing scientific processes, content authoring, research and compliance platforms.

Salary Range (Annual Base Salary)

  • For this role: 87,680.00 GBP to 137,660.00 GBP. -The final salary placement in the range will be determined during recruitment, considering qualifications, expertise, cultural fit, and strategic contribution chances.
