Your Impact

As a strategic leader within our Bridges & Structures team, you’ll play a pivotal role in transforming Jacobs into a forefront solutions-focused service provider. By harnessing emerging technologies, lean methodologies, and data-driven approaches, you’ll enhance project efficiency and deliver high-value, sustainable structural solutions across highways, rail, aviation, energy, and power sectors.

Your work will centre on transitioning abstract challenges into actionable outcomes, reinforcing Jacobs’ reputation for excellence—driving decabonisation, decarbonisation, and circular economy principles.


Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Mentorship:

    • Oversee structural analysis, feasibility studies, tender submissions, and detailed design for high-impact projects.
    • Guide contract documentation and technical reporting to ensure adherence to engineering best practices and client expectations.
    • Mentor multidisciplinary teams, nurturing technical and leadership growth to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration:

    • Partner agile with architects, engineers, and procurement specialists to deliver integrated, client-centric outcomes.
    • Align efforts with UK Global Integrated Delivery teams for seamless resource optimisation and flawless scheme delivery.
  • Innovation & Process Enhancement:

    • Champion automated, data-driven, and standardised methodologies to streamline workflows and bolster productivity.
    • Identify technological leaps—such as BIM integration or AI-driven risk analysis—to future-proof structural designs.

  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Represent Jacobs proactively to global clients and government bodies, delivering technical clarity, creativity, and operational expertise.

About the Role

At Jacobs, high visibility means high impact. With authority over multi-disciplinary projects (valued up to £2 billion+), this role will position you as a trusted fountainhead of innovation in UK transportation infrastructure. You’ll engage with prestigious industry partners and influence the trajectory of high-profile schemes—from High Speed 2 (HS2) to National Rail and major softpower projects.

Your expertise will shape practices, support their evolution, and future-proof structural engineering for a rapidly changing world—all while growing alongside a team committed to inclusive collaboration and excellence.


What We’re Looking For

Eligibility Guidelines

  • Degree: Bachelor’s/Master’s in Civil or Structural Engineering, or related discipline (e.g., Mechanics, Materials Science).
  • Professional credentials: Stores a recognised engineering professional qualification (e.g., ICE, IStructE, SCI).

Core Competencies

  • Technical Leadership: Proven track record in structural design, load assessment, material specifications, and innovation—with emphasis on highway/rail/aviation sectors.
  • Project Copiloting: Experience directing multi-million pound projects, bridging design, engineering, and operational hurdles.
  • Digital Transformation: Proficiency in emerging technologies (e.g., BIM, parametric modeling, GIS, or automated analysis tools).
  • Asset Lifecycle Expertise: In-depth knowledge of post-tensioning, retrofitting, and predictive maintenance, especially in fortified structures.

Soft Strengths

  • Global Collaboration: Expatriate or nimble negotiation skills for cross-cultural teams.
  • Sustainability Mindset: Commitment to EM&T, ESG, and resilient design for net-zero goals.
  • Relentless Curiosity: Continuous iteration on technical uncertainties to enhance reliability and efficiency.
