Associate Director Building Surveyor

Built Asset Solutions | Exeter

Permanent | Full-time | Hybrid working

We're searching for a chartered building surveyor to join our Exeter building surveying team to enhance our new built asset solutions service line and strengthen our capabilities in the South West. This is an opportunity to work closely with our South West Building Surveying lead, and take on a key role as our Exeter office building surveying contact.

Joining a growing multi-disciplinary team which has grown to 7 members in 18 months, you will have ownership of local clients and commissions, local business growth and people management as we continue to grow our building surveying offering in Exeter.

Reporting into our building surveying lead and collaborating with our Exeter cost & project managers, you will deliver a range of commissions across Devon, Cornwall & Somerset, leveraging existing relationships and partnerships to secure new business opportunities.

You will lead projects through design, specification, contract administration & delivery, acting as key point of contact for clients on refurbishment, fit-out, component replacement & external decoration projects.

Your work will also include professional inspection and survey work including conditions, building pathology and specific defects, with opportunities to deliver dilapidations, party wall matters and technical due diligence services.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of a range of building surveying commissions across built assets and client portfolios
  • Build strong, trusted client relationships and help identify and win new opportunities
  • Support the continued growth of the Nottingham office and wider Built Asset Solutions offer
  • Provide clear, practical advice on building consultancy, asset performance, risk and project delivery
  • Take ownership of commissions from instruction through to completion, with a focus on quality, commercial performance and client satisfaction
  • Coordinate and lead project teams, bringing together the right Gleeds expertise to deliver better outcomes
  • Mentor and develop colleagues, helping create a collaborative environment where people can grow and thrive
  • Bring fresh thinking to service delivery and help shape a modern, forward-looking building consultancy offer

You will bring:

  • Strong building surveying experience and the credibility to lead client instructions and project delivery

Who we’re looking for:

Experience, Knowledge And Key Skills

  • Broad, in-depth Building Surveying experience post MRICS qualification;
  • Detailed knowledge and practical experience of delivery of building surveying tasks;
  • Sound knowledge of construction methods and materials;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction procurement strategies, including tendering and contract strategies;
  • Ability to administer construction contracts as Contracts Administrator and Employers Agent;
  • Clear understanding of legislation impacting on building contracts;
  • Ability to motivate others (including providing support and encouragement) and to lead high performance teams;
  • Clear and effective communication skills – both oral and written;
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to quickly adapt to changes;
  • Excellent problem solving, negotiating skills, financial and numeracy management skills;
  • Ability to absorb complex information and assess requirements readily;
  • Sound ICT Skills, with a high level of proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Competent at negotiating sufficient fees to both complete services and generate required profit levels;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and lead teams.

  • MRICS (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors)
