Associate Director, Building Surveying

About the Role

Our Building Consultancy team is upscaling, and we are looking for an experienced Associate Director to work alongside the department Director. This is a senior, client-facing position where your technical expertise will be backed by SHB’s market intelligence platforms and a genuinely collaborative team.

This role sits at the intersection of professional surveying and strategic advisory.

Responsibilities

  • Lead client engagements and build trusted, long-term advisory relationships with occupiers and stakeholders
  • Prepare formal:
    • Condition reports
    • Dilapidations assessments
    • Proactive technical advice across the property lifecycle
  • Provide Project Management on fit-out schemes
  • Analyse market trends, translating data insights into clear, commercially grounded recommendations for clients
  • Collaborate across SHB’s service lines (transactions, workplace strategy, technology) to deliver a seamless, end-to-end advisory experience

Requirements

  • Degree in Building Surveying or a related discipline
  • MRICS qualification or equivalent – highly desirable
  • Proven experience in:
    • Commercial dilapidations
    • Property acquisition surveys
    • Asset management advisory
  • Strong report writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical findings clearly to senior stakeholders
  • Track record of:
    • Building client relationships
    • Project management across multiple workstreams simultaneously
  • Experience working with:
    • Property technology platforms
    • Market intelligence tools
    • Use of data to inform smarter property decisions
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset – forward thinking, not just findings
