Associate Director (Lead Civil Engineer) - Manchester
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Civil Engineer (Associate Director level) to establish and grow a civil engineering team within a highly respected, design-led engineering consultancy in Manchester.
This is a key strategic hire, offering the chance to take ownership of a growing function, work on high-profile UK projects, and play a central role in shaping the future of a collaborative and ambitious team.
The Opportunity
You'll be leading the development of the civil engineering capability in Manchester, working closely with senior leadership and multidisciplinary teams across the business. This role combines technical delivery, team leadership, and business development - ideal for someone looking to step into a highly influential position.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate civil engineering design across a range of projects Collaborate with senior stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery Act as a key client contact, building and maintaining strong relationships Drive business development activities including work winning and bid submissions Oversee technical quality, standards, and regulatory compliance Manage project finances, resources, and team performance

About You
Proven experience leading civil engineering design teams Strong technical background within a consultancy environment Confident in client-facing situations and stakeholder management Commercially aware, with experience supporting or leading business development Strong understanding of design standards, quality assurance, and compliance Highly organised, with experience in resource planning and financial oversight A proactive, professional leader who can inspire and grow a team
