Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Associate Director to lead as Senior Cost Manager / Commercial Manager on high-profile infrastructure projects (rail, air, power, highways, etc.). This role demands leadership, strategic cost management expertise, and strong client relations, with a focus on delivering value through consultative partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

Core Role Obligations

  • Lead end-to-end cost management for large or complex projects, ensuring alignment with client objectives and commercial strategy.
  • Act as the principal point of client engagement, fostering trust and driving transparent, value-added delivery.
  • Apply deep cost modelling, risk management, and contractual negotiation expertise in NEC3 (Option C – Target Cost) and post-contract frameworks.
  • Guide teams to optimise commercial outcomes while adhering to regulatory (including SOX controls where relevant) and market best practices.
  • Deliver cost certainty, forecasting accuracy, and stakeholder buy-in for project milestones.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Mentor junior team members, curating high-performing, client-focused teams that rise to challenging deadlines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional specialists (programme managers, engineers, procurement officers) to streamline project workflows.
  • Champion transparency and agility in cost transparency and commercial decision-making.

Commercial & Technical Focus

  • Manage cost-overruns and value engineering initiatives, presenting evidence-based recommendations to clients.
  • Leverage broader commercial expertise (T&Ms, macro cost planning, rebaselining) to optimise project economics.
  • Support project teams through tender evaluation, contract drafting, and post-award administration.

Requirements

Essential Criteria

✅ 10+ years in cost/commercial management, with a track record in large infrastructure programmes/projects. ✅ Proficiency in NEC3 (especially Option C) contracts, alongside contract administration post-award. ✅ MRICS certification is highly desirable. ✅ Sector-specific infrastructure experience, particularly in rail, public transport, energy, or major programmes. ✅ Ability to drive challenging commercial conversations with strong negotiation and mediation skills. ✅ Team leadership with proven ability to coach, motivate, and escalate strategic insights from teams. ✅ Client engagement credentials, including experience working with ** alliance/partnering models** and large-scale stakeholders.

Preferred Additional Qualities

🔹 Experience working for multi-national clients or in stakeholder-driven mandates. 🔹 Familiarity with formed partnership frameworks and collaborative procurement models. 🔹 Understanding of environmental, ESG, or net-zero principles in project delivery.
