Associate Director Data Engineering

Data Engineering Lead

📍 London, UK | Hybrid (3 days onsite) | Full-time

We're partnering with an innovative TechBio company transforming drug discovery through data, machine learning, and multi-omics research.

We're looking for a Data Engineering Lead to lead the development of scalable scientific data platforms that power cutting-edge biological research. You’ll manage a team of Data Engineers while partnering closely with scientists, bioinformaticians, and software engineers to deliver robust data infrastructure and pipelines.

About the Role

Lead and mentor a team of Data Engineers. Build and scale data platforms supporting large-scale scientific and omics datasets. Develop and optimise ETL pipelines and workflow orchestration frameworks. Drive data governance, data quality, and FAIR data principles. Partner with cross-functional teams across biology, data science, and engineering. Deliver production-grade data infrastructure on cloud and HPC environments.

Requirements

Experience leading data engineering teams in biotech, genomics, healthcare, or scientific computing environments. Strong Python and SQL skills. Expertise with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure). Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Nextflow, Dagster, or Airflow. Knowledge of Kubernetes, CI/CD, and modern data platform engineering practices. Background in bioinformatics, genomics, or large-scale scientific data management is highly desirable.
