Associate Director – Deep Tech

The Pitch

Help global companies and government agencies understand the technologies shaping the future, from quantum computing and synthetic biology to advanced climate technologies and next-generation aerospace systems.

About the Role

Outsmart Insight is seeking an experienced Associate Director with a strong scientific or engineering background who can quickly understand emerging technologies, build trusted client relationships and lead the delivery of exceptional technology intelligence.

You'll spend your time exploring breakthrough technologies being developed in laboratories and startups around the world, working with scientists, founders, and industry experts, and translating complex technical research into strategic, client-ready insight for organisations at the forefront of innovation.

This is a role for someone who enjoys thinking deeply, writing clearly, and leading others to produce exceptional work. You do not need to be an expert in every field, but you should be intellectually curious, adaptable, and excited by the challenge of understanding complex technologies quickly.

This is a role for intellectually curious generalists. While you'll bring expertise from one area, you'll spend much of your time learning about technologies you've never encountered before. You'll work closely with our analysts, project managers, and our global community of science and technology experts to deliver exceptional insight and strategic value to clients. We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment, communicates thoughtfully, builds trusted client relationships, and takes genuine pride in producing work of the highest quality.

In this role, you'll lead high-impact client engagements across a broad range of emerging technologies. You'll take ownership of strategic accounts, mentor analysts, safeguard the quality of client deliverables, and help shape the future direction of Outsmart Insight's technology intelligence capabilities.

What You Will Be Doing

By translating emerging technology research and foresight into clear, strategic insight, you'll help the R&D divisions of global companies and government agencies stay at the forefront of innovation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
