Associate Director – Remote or Office based

We are looking for an experienced Associate Director to join a leading utilities company that champions innovation and service excellence. At Last Mile Asset Management, part of the Last Mile Group, we take pride in delivering high-quality solutions across the multi-utility sector.

About the Role

As Associate Director, at Last Mile Asset Management (LMAM), you will lead and manage technically focused teams, using experience in a similar industry to drive operational excellence. You will play a key role in business development by fostering strategic partnerships, removing barriers, and positioning Last Mile as the adopter of choice. The role requires balancing stakeholder interests to implement compliant technical solutions, ensuring asset compliance and protecting investment.

Furthermore, you will also contribute to business change initiatives, representing the company at board meetings, and work collaboratively as part of the senior leadership team to achieve LMAM’s objectives. A strong focus will be placed on promoting a unified Last Mile identity across your teams and the wider group.

This opportunity can be based anywhere in the UK, though ideally in a central location with good connections to our main office locations, in Glasgow, Warrington and Stonehouse as travel may be expected.

Your Responsibilities as an Associate Director

Strategic:

  • Contribute to LMAM’s overall business strategy and annual budget setting.
  • Act as the primary advisor to the senior management team and Board on all matters relating to LMAM electricity assets.
  • Develop and control budgets to manage resource and capacity.
  • Evaluate and report on operational performance by ensuring key data and metrics are captured and analysed as required.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate areas of risk and/or inefficiency.
  • Support partners in developing and delivering LMAM’s electricity offering.
  • Formulate and implement future development strategy for electricity networks growth.
  • Represent LMAM interests in a diverse range of stakeholder engagements, such as with DNO, IDNO, ICP, NESO, INA, ENA, DESNZ

Operational:

  • Develop, implement, and manage LMAM’s capability for electricity asset operation and maintenance including but not limited to identifying and securing the right commercial arrangements, resources, systems, technical and operational standards, and procedures.
  • Inspire, motivate, manage, and oversee team members to drive LMAM actions forward; and
  • Communicate LMAM’s objectives clearly throughout our respective organisations and ensure all team members involved are competently trained to carry out their roles to the industry leading standard.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements, including ensuring regulatory reporting obligations are met and submitted in a timely manner.

Experience / Knowledge / Qualifications

Qualifications and experience:

  • Construction or engineering background in the electricity distribution sector, such as in an IDNO/DNO or large ICP.
  • Experience in a senior leadership position.
  • An electrical engineering related Degree or HNC/HND.
  • Exceptional knowledge of core operational functions and principles, including commercial, logistics, electrical engineering, and employee management.
  • Proven ability to analyse, manage and improve existing operational processes and systems for maximum efficiency, productivity, and resilience.
  • Working knowledge of electricity construction industry regulations and legislation.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering process change and of progressing continuous improvement.
  • Highly numerate with experience of setting and owning budgets and analysing trends and patterns.
