Job Description
About the Role
AECOM is seeking an Associate Director (Fire Engineer) specialising in Defence work. This senior consultancy role requires expertise in multi-disciplinary fire engineering across multiple sectors, with a focus on Defence standards and client-focused solutions.
Ideal for:

What You’ll Do
People
- Lead and manage Defence workload management, team performance, and project delivery.
- Oversee the execution of large, complex Defence projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and client expectations.
- Align with multi-disciplinary teams and national leadership to deliver high-quality results on schedule and within budget.
- Drive performance reviews by setting SMART goals for team members; conduct appraisals of direct reports.
- Cultivate mentorship and professional development, supporting colleagues toward Chartership and career growth.
- Act as a technical mentor, particularly for junior staff transitioning into project roles.

Projects
- Provide technical budgeting and scheduling for intricate fire engineering projects.
- Lead or co-lead Defence projects, nationally and internationally, as an AECOM Approved Lead Verifier or Project Manager.
- Manage client relationships and build trust to secure new opportunities.
- Consistently uphold standards of quality, ensuring timely delivery while adhering to contracts.
Business
- Champion AECOM values of safety, and vision, enforcing policies at work and client visits.
- Foster collaborative client relationships and contribute to business growth.
- Support national teams in meeting KPIs and developing marketing strategies to enhance the Fire Engineering service line.
- Assist in drafting and implementing the Fire Team Business Plan.
Team Contributions
- Earn professional certifications including Chartered Engineer (CEng) and qualifications like CFPE (NFPA).

Requirements
Essential
Required qualifications and experience:
- Extensive consultancy experience in multi-disciplinary engineering environments.
- Deep knowledge of UK fire standards (e.g., ADB, BS 9991, BS 9999, HTM 05-02, BB100) and Defence standards (e.g., JSP 80, DIFS).
- Proficiency in fire modelling tools: FDS, SFE, evacuation simulations.
- Active membership in MIFireE or equivalent certification (e.g., NFPA’s CFPE).
- Undergraduate degree (BEng/MEng) or master’s degree (MSc) in fire science/engineering.

Preferred
- Chartered Engineer accreditation.
- Hold, or history of attaining, high-level security clearance.
- Field experience in global standards (e.g., NFPA, IBC/SFPE, IMO).
- PhD in a fire-related discipline.
