About The Role
Joining Robert Bird Group as a UK-based Associate Director (Geotechnical Engineering) will sharpen your engineering expertise within a fast-growing, award-winning practice.
Responsibilities:
- Lead multidisciplinary and technical solutions for complex building projects and infrastructure.
- Collaborate on English landscapes such as still-active urban basements, foundations, retaining structures, floor sliping engineering, asset impact reports, and responsive to ground movements.
- Represent commercial interests of Director-level projects, managing client relationships, team development, technical leadership, and subconsultant coordination.
Prior experience delivering safe, innovative, and profitable engineering will be accelerated here.

Duties
Technical Delivery
- Direct developers from ground investigation to assessed risk and feasibility reports.
- Oversee site testing reports submissions.
- Man members achieve initiative-loaded designs rooted in PLAXIS 2D/3D, GeoStudio, Repute, WALLAP, and associated Oasys software.
- Coordinate development of conceptual approaches, geotechnical remediation proposals, strategies.
- Uphold smoother CDM compliance and continuous risk assessment across projects.
Project & Commercial Management
- Assign/ reconfigure resources for short-term and long-term projects while controlling costs and deadlines.
- Draft technically robust cost proposals and amend dates as needed.
- Carry out design reviews, accountability for quality assurance (QA), and ask finalising liaison with vendors.
- Oversee technical freelancers, allocating programme scopes and increasing commercial accountability.
Client & Business Development
- Prospect bid execution: Outreach current and future clients to drive new stretches of inquiry.
- Build engagement through repeat commissions, delivering exemplar service.
- Lead Proejct Director-delivered client meetings and set relationship expectations.
- Transmit client outreach expectations to multidisciplinary teams, managing unforeseen adjustments.
- Prepare and liable for discussion on rolling project charges and fee variances.
- Represent firm at client-led engagement sessions.
What We Are Looking For
- Degree in Civil Engineering; preferred: MSc in Geotechnical Engineering.
- Chartered status: Approved with ICE or Geological Society.
- Established experience with PLAXIS 2D/3D and tools of GeoStudio, Repute, WALLAP, and Oasys package.
- Project History: Geotechnical design portfolio across buildings and infrastructure.
- Strong writing discipline for ground assessments, self-checking, and clarity in technical reports.
- CDM Overview: Compliance familiarization beyond planning, design, contract and construction inception.
- Experience craftsman within fast-paced consultancy model satisfying stringent client goals among aligned engineering teams.
- Confident in multi-walled commercials to execute financially successful projects.
- Coхеsion: Manage diverse projects/offerings while interfacing directly with clients and non-geotechnical technical inputs.
