Associate Director, Global Commercial Training

Global Commercial Training, Associate Director Travel: Up to 40%

Oxford Nanopore Technologies is seeking an experienced commercial training leader to drive the strategy, design and global delivery of training programmes that support our worldwide commercial organisation.

Reporting to the Director of Commercial Training, this role will lead scalable learning initiatives that enhance onboarding, sales capability, certification readiness, sales methodology adoption, leadership effectiveness and continuous commercial growth across regions.

Working cross-functionally with Sales Leadership, Commercial Operations, Product Management, Marketing, Customer Care, Technical Services, Global Support, HR and Digital teams, you will ensure training programmes align with business priorities and commercial strategy. You will also partner closely with the Manager – Technical Services Training to deliver a cohesive and scalable global training approach across technical, customer support and sales functions.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the global commercial training strategy aligned to commercial priorities.
  • Identify capability gaps and drive commercial effectiveness initiatives.
  • Establish KPIs and continuously improve training impact and performance.

Team & Programme Management

  • Lead and develop training specialists and regional trainers as applicable.
  • Oversee onboarding, certification, sales methodology, leadership and product training programmes.
  • Ensure training content is scalable, consistent and aligned to business needs.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Commercial, Product, Marketing, Technical Services, Customer Care, HR and Commercial Operations teams to support global training initiatives.
  • Work with regional teams to support rollout and localisation of training programmes.
  • Collaborate closely and independently with the Manager – Technical Services Training to ensure a cohesive global commercial training approach.

Operational Excellence

  • Standardise training processes, onboarding pathways and certification programmes globally.
  • Support training resource planning, learning platforms and capability development initiatives.
  • Travel internationally as required (up to 40%).

Experience

  • 10+ years of commercial experience with a proven track record in sales, sales training, marketing and leadership.
  • Experience working under pressure with minimal supervision in a highly matrixed sales and service environment.
  • Experience working with integrated systems and CRM platforms.
  • Experience working with research/life science departments highly preferred.
  • Field sales management experience desirable.

Qualifications

  • BSc degree (preferably in Life Sciences).
  • Postgraduate study in a related field or an MBA is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the Life Sciences research market.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts in an easy-to-understand way.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to work to timelines and budgets.
  • Excellent organisational and teamwork skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Local knowledge of best business practices.
