Associate Director – Information Management (Defence Role)
Location: Cumbria | Contract Type: Permanent (Midwich Sector)
About Mace & the Role
Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to empower people and projects, redefining ambition through structured information management. This Associate Director supports Mace’s Defence team, driving Information Management (IM) strategies in air systems and high-visibility programmes—delivering ISO 19650-aligned solutions across project and programme scales.
Key to your responsibilities will be leading IM strategy, enforcing Mace’s operational frameworks, and fostering a high-performing IM team within an integrated, secure, Defence-regulated client space. The role starts in the autumn/winter period and offers a compelling mix of strategic leadership, technical excellence, and workplace flexibility.
Responsibilities
As Associate Director – Information Management (IM), your focus embraces:
-
Strategic leadership:
- Define and execute IM strategies, standards, and processes aligned with ISO 19650 and Mace’s operational Way of Working (WoW), applying modern frameworks to client-facing projects.
- Establish and manage the IM function across programmes, ensuring embedment with process, naming, numbering, and filing systems for effective information governance.
-
Delivery and assurance:
- Be the guardian of quality: Provide end-to-end assurance on all documents, artefacts, and data, enforcing DQM (Data Quality Management) standards.
- Specify and deliver tools, methodologies, and templates to minimise redundancy, improve data accuracy, and reduce errors.
-
Technical/expertise contributions:
- Deliver advisory leadership on IM challenges in the global Digital Centre of Excellence, developing and propagating a consolidated knowledge base (e.g., guides, standards, and lessons learned).
- Support productivity and commercial bids, ensuring bids incorporate future-proof IM architectures to win and deliver projects effectively.
- Drive innovation with a net-zero focus: Align IM practices with sustainability goals, optimising digital workflows to reduce operational carbon emissions across projects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
