Associate Director/Director, Media Strategy & Communications

Associate Director/Director – Communications (Sovereigns & Economics) – London

Fitch Ratings is seeking an **experienced Associate Director/Director to join its London-based Communications team, primarily supporting its Sovereigns and Economics teams across the EMEA region.

Reporting to the Head of Media Strategy, the role requires:

  • A trusted adviser and enabler for the Sovereigns and Economics teams, as well as partner functions such as Marketing, Business & Relationship Management, and Investor Development.
  • Strong media relations and issues management expertise, combined with proven digital acumen in leveraging communications technologies and platforms to enhance impact, relevance, and reach.

Fitch Ratings’ Marketing and Communications organisation drives brand awareness, market visibility, and business growth through cohesive, commercially focused communication strategies. The team collaborates with digital marketing, creative and design, events, and marketing operations to deliver impactful programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communications Leadership

    • Develop and execute strategic communications plans for Sovereigns and Economics teams, aligned with commercial goals across EMEA.
  • Content Development & Media Engagement

    • Produce high-quality communications materials, including:
      • Media pitches, press releases, talking points & Q&As
      • By-line articles and social media content
    • Lead proactive earned media strategies, such as:
      • Exclusive stories, embargoed research
      • Data-led storytelling & content partnerships
      • Podcasts & high-impact media opportunities
    • Balance proactive media outreach with thoughtful engagement in regulated environments.

  • Partnership & Stakeholder Management

    • Collaborate with senior analytical leaders to refine media messaging on:
      • Sovereign ratings, macroeconomic trends, and emerging credit risks (including media training support).
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with:
      • Capital markets, economic, and regional media across EMEA.
      • Influencers and expert communities.
    • Enhance media reporting & analytics to demonstrate business value, aligned with Fitch’s strategic and commercial objectives.
  • Team & Operational Development

    • Contribute to the evolution of Fitch’s modern in-house communications team.

Requirements

5–10 years’ experience in corporate communications, ideally within:

  • Financial services, capital markets, or regulated industries.
  • Agency experience desirable.

A candidate should be: ✔ Proactive, creative, and solutions-focused – capable of driving earned media strategies that deliver visibility, reputation, and commercial results. ✔ Strong judge of messaging in reputation-sensitive environments (regulatory awareness required). ✔ Skilled in:

  • Stakeholder management and diplomacy (influencing across internal and external audiences).
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication. ✔ Comfortable with:
  • Fast-paced, matrixed environments.
  • Multityasking priorities to collaborate globally.
