Associate Ecologist – Pick Everard

The Role: Associate Ecologist
Pick Everard is seeking an established ecological consultant to help grow our Environmental Services discipline. The role will involve:
- Building and managing an ecological team,
- Delivering project expertise in master planning inputs and high-level ecological appraisals,
- Conducting ornithological surveys, protected species studies, habitat surveys, and ecological assessments,
- Designing and supervising mitigation strategies, construction stages, and post-project monitoring.
You’ll chance to:
- Work on diverse projects, from infrastructure developments to renewable energy schemes, across the UK.
- Develop strategic partnerships with public and private sector clients.
- Support systematic team knowledge sharing and skill development.
Key Deliverables
- Quality assurance of ecological project inputs underpinned by democratic rigour and fourth cornering.
- Facilitation of an excellent client experience.
- Representation and leadership across key decision-making forums.
- Strong communication across all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and shape the strategic and operational direction of our ecology team.
- Develop and refine high-quality ecological methodologies for development assessments.
- Provide clear, visionary direction for the continuous improvement of our ecological survey practice.
- Implement and demonstrate a high level of continuing professional and commercial excellence.
- Maintain excellent client relationships, managing perceptions of expertise, responsiveness, and quality.
Requirements
Essential Criteria
- Degree (or equivalent) in biological sciences, ecology, environmental science, or a related subject.
- Significant and successful consultancy experience, evidenced in the delivery of a wide portfolio of ecological projects.
- Expertise spanning protected species (bats, birds or botanical)
- Demonstrated scriptwriting and species identification skills, including field surveys for indicator species.
- Full understanding of UK and EU Wildlife Legislation, including Biodiversity Duty, Habitat Regulations, EU Habitats Directive and UK Biodiversity Action Plan.
- Established consultant experience in reporting approaches and compilation of habitat assessment techniques.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Full Membership of CIEEM.
- Previous leadership of multi-team projects, demonstrating effective stakeholder and team management.
- Experience in drive repeat business and securing new client contracts through strong client relationships.
- Knowledge and application of modern ecological modelling, GIS, BREW or other ecological survey planning tools.
