About the Role
Working within the Data Centres Market Sector as a technical ambassador across EMEA, you will:
Collaborate globally with: ✔️ UK-based tech teams ✔️ Liberal Europe teams ✔️ Global Data Centre colleagues
Build on the rapid growth of our Technology / Data Centre Sector by leading electrical design and business development.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
-
Own full electrical lifecycle from feasibility to handover:
- Design (feasibility, concept, scheme, detailed)
- Procurement & construction support
- Commissioning & client handover

Validate and define power architectures, including: ➡️ Utility intake ➡️ MV/LV distribution systems ➡️ UPS topologies & generator systems ➡️ Switchgear, PDUs ➡️ STS & busway design ➡️ Earthing ➡️ Lighting systems

Lead technical studies & protection design:
- Load flow
- Short circuit analysis
- Protection coordination, arc-flash studies, & harmonic analysis
- Tools: ETAP/SKM proficiency

Integrate monitoring & controls (BMS/EPMS/SCADA)

Design metering strategies and resilience features to meet: ✅ Tier II–IV availability objectives ✅ Client-specific needs
Sustainability & Efficiency
- Embed decarbonization & energy efficiency:
- High-efficiency UPS
- Advanced controls
- Heat recovery systems
- Demand response strategies
- On-site renewables
- Grid-interactive solutions

Compliance & Interdisciplinary Coordination

Ensure adherence to standards: ✔️ IEC/BS/EN ✔️ NEC/NFPA (U.S.)

Meet client specifications and AECOM quality procedures

Coordinate cross-functional interfaces for fully integrated designs, including:
- Mechanical engineers
- Structural designers
- Architects
- Fire/life safety experts
- Security specialists
- ICT professionals
Requirements
Essential
✅ Five years'({plus}) experience in electrical project execution for Data Centres & Mission Critical Environments
✅ or equivalent combination of relevant roles:
- Ten-years experience in Electrical Engineering with five years in Data Centres/Hyperscale
- Eight-years experience in Mission Critical sites with three years in Data Centres
✅ Hyperscale/multi-site project delivery experience:
- Fast-track projects
- Design-build execution
✅ Technical expertise in: ✔️ Multi-feed electrical distribution ✔️ Generator sizing & systems (automatic/bypass sync) ✔️ Data Centre development drivers (client mindset, revolution in tech & markets)
✅ Cross-disciplinary technical knowledge of Mechanical aspects & their interface with electrical systems
✅ Client-centric mindset with:
- Strong Business Development skills
- Technical presentation capabilities
- Client trust-building ability
- Confident bid strategy initiation (from tech inputs)
✅ Technical decision-making experience for clients
✅ Business unit growth mindset:
- Search for opportunities to widen AECOM’s footprint within the Data Centre sector, enhancing markets in UK, LI, and across EMEA
- Provide significant leadership to align technical growth with bottom-line delivery
Preferred Skills
- Detailed BMS/controls design experience & understanding
- Exposure to LLC/LD2 equivalents & renewable integration studies
Personal Attributes
- Recognised as rapid and thorough in reviews and quality checks by another Associate Director or Director
- Multidisciplinary attitude with capacity to resolve conflicts
- Strong & influenceable technical leadership with equity & adaptability
