Electrical Associate Director

Data Centres Market Sector – AECOM EMEA

About the Role

You will be the chief technical and commercial ambassador for AECOM’s Data Centres sector across EMEA, driving technology excellence, strategizing, and leading delivery to deliver efficient, resilient, and low-carbon solutions for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Own electrical design across all project phases—from feasibility to handover, supporting procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Define and validate power architectures, including:
    • Utility intake & distribution (MV/LV, UPS topologies, generators, switchgear, PDUs, STS, busway)
    • Earthing and lighting systems
    • Tiers II-IV critical power solutions
  • Lead power systems studies using ETAP/SKM for:
    • Load flow, short circuit analysis
    • Protection coordination (selective choosing, arc-flash studies)
    • Harmonic analysis
  • Integrate BMS/EPMS/SCADA, metering strategies, and resilience measures for availability objectives.
  • Embed decarbonization and energy efficiency:
    • High-efficiency UPS, demand-response strategies
    • On-site renewables (PV, battery storage)
    • Heat recovery systems
  • Ensure compliance with IEC/BS/EN, NEC/NFPA standards, client specs, and AECOM quality procedures.

Design Coordination & Team Leadership

  • Bolster multi-disciplinary collaboration with mechanical, structural, architectural, fire/life safety, and ICT teams.
  • Develop and mentor junior professionals
  • Champion electrical design excellence through quality, innovation, and sustainability.

Business Development & Client Impact

  • Lead EMEA tech infrastructure projects, aligning with our mission.
  • Shape client-facing strategies, winning key high-value work.
  • Contribute to AECOM’s global tech infrastructure portfolio.

Requirements

Experience & Expertise

  • 10+ years in electrical project delivery for data centres or digital mission-critical environments.
  • Specialist hyperscale data centre or multi-site program experience—preferably in fast-track or design-build.
  • Proven leadership in UK & pan-EMEA projects—project/business development track record underpinned by commercial acumen.
  • Strong client-facing and client-winning expertise.
  • Deep expertise in:
    • Power systems architectures
    • Ribbon cabling, cooling, PDU design configurations
    • AS-IT simulation[*?] (systems integration)

Technical & Soft Skills

  • Diagnose and resolve technical challenges in fast-paced environments.
  • Exceptional communication—both internal (s Bree’s into n structures) and external (client-facing).
  • Ability to develop junior professionals and mentorship mindset.
  • Cost-conscious thinking for data centre projects.
  • Sensibility of **energy efficiency (e.g., closed-loop UPS deployment, HVAC changes in “ No load burn) and decarbonisation pathways, e.g., renewable energy, hydrogen).

Commercial & Leadership Skills

  • Proactive stakeholder management—balancing demand, supply, sequence, quality, and cost.
  • Robust commercial acumen—understanding project financials to ensure delivery success.
  • Demonstrated ability to focus on new commercial opportunities and lead revenue-drive.
