Associate Geo- Environmental Consultant
Associate Geo-environmental Consultant – Leeds or Derby
Tetra Tech is seeking an Associate Geo-environmental Consultant to deliver technically complex and nationally significant projects across the UK, supporting clients with critical environmental and land quality challenges while fostering your growth in technical leadership.
About the Role
Join a dynamic team of 30 geo-environment specialists based in the North of England, as part of Tetra Tech’s national team of over 100 geo-environment professionals. Your work will span diverse sectors including defence, water utilities, logistics, master development, and major airport operations.
You will:
- Deliver ground investigation, land quality and remediation, PFAS and EDD services, and groundwater/geothermal expertise to both public and private sector clients.
- Lead or support complex projects across the entire project lifecycle: from desk studies and site investigations through to remediation design, implementation, and regulatory liaison.
- Work in multidisciplinary teams, integrating technical expertise to deliver commercially successful and socially responsible outcomes.
- Support business growth while contributing to innovation and mentoring emerging professionals.
- Leverage professional networks and drive proactive client engagement.

Core Responsibilities
Project Management
- Lead or support multidisciplinary geo-environmental projects and ensure client expectations are met.
- Champion best practice, knowledge sharing, and innovation.
Technical Expertise
- Conduct contaminated land assessments (qualitative risk assessment, waste classification) and remediation projects in compliance with UK standards (including British Standards) and CIRIA guidance.
- Oversee site investigations, lab scheduling, groundwater sampling, and ground gas monitoring.
- Strengthen technical report-writing and communication skills.
Client Engagement
- Foster long-term client relationships through transparent, confident, and tailored communication across all levels.
- Advocate for data-driven technical solutions while balancing business objectives.
Business Growth
- Collaborate on bids, tenders, and framework submissions to secure new opportunities.
- Identify potential leads through networking and proactive client engagement.
Mentoring & Professional Development
- Guide junior team members in technical skills, project contributions, and self-development.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree (or master’s) in geology, engineering geology, or environmental science.
- Substantial hands-on exposure to contaminated land assessment and remediation projects.
- Eligibility for UK Security Clearance (SC level) and a full UK driving licence.
- Commercial awareness, ability to manage workloads, and self-motivation in a collaborative team.
