Associate – Insurance Disputes (Exeter)

Description
We are seeking an Associate to join our 14-lawyer Insurance Disputes team in Exeter. The role involves delivering first-class client service, contributing to proactive marketing and expanding the team’s profile through exceptional client management.
The Role
The primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Advising and representing clients in insurance and personal injury matters through litigation, arbitration, or alternative dispute resolution (ADR), with minimal supervision.
- Handling and interpreting coverage issues, liability claims, subrogation, and personal injury cases (both Claimant and Defendant) in the England and Wales jurisdiction.
- Assisting with contractual disputes related to insurance and civil litigation as required.
- Taking instructions from clients, attending meetings, initiating file procedures, and ensuring internal compliance.
- Progressing cases through the litigation process, exploring all ADR methodologies.
- Conducting ad hoc research on legal matters.
- Engaging in team marketing initiatives to enhance client engagement.
- Managing files in accordance with Lexcel procedures and client service agreements.
- Participating in firm-wide and departmental training sessions.

The Candidate
Candidates must meet the following criteria as per the firm’s Career Development Framework:
- Qualified solicitor required.
- Excellent technical skills with a proven ability to:
- Take responsibility for managing and progressing matters independently where appropriate.
- Demonstrate a strong client focus and commitment to excellence in service delivery.
- Drive, enthusiasm, and a "can-do" attitude.
- Commercial awareness and credibility in client interactions.
- Solid academic record with strong legal foundations.
- Ability to effectively manage caseloads, meet deadlines, and prioritise workloads.
- Outstanding communication skills with a collaborative approach.
- Team player with the ability to work autonomously when necessary.
