Job Description Summary
The Associate Laboratory Technician ensures the seamless daily operations of the laboratory. This role focuses on maintaining a clean, organised, and well-stocked environment, supporting scientists through material preparation, inventory management, and basic technical assistance.
Job Responsibilities

Communication & Collaboration:
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers, both verbally and in writing.
- Collaborate with team members to maintain lab and equipment readiness.

Inventory & Supplier Management:
- Monitor and replenish laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables.
- Receive, label, and store incoming materials.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and report stock or equipment issues.

Laboratory Maintenance & Setup:
- Clean and sterilise glassware, instruments, and workspaces.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Prepare and set up equipment and materials for experiments.

Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with lab safety protocols and assist with safety inspections.
- Dispose of chemical and biological waste according to regulations.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all lab tasks.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting:
- Provide guidance on equipment use and basic troubleshooting.
- Escalate issues promptly to supervisors.
- Support with service work orders and coordinate maintenance events with scientists.

Logistical & Administrative Tasks:
- Escort and coordinate vendor visits to lab areas.
- Support communication efforts, such as posting signs and managing emails.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1-2 years’ experience in a customer-facing role.
Preferred qualifcations
- 2+ years in a scientific or laboratory environment.
- Associate degree or professional certification in a relevant field (e.g., Project Management, Six Sigma, Business Administration, Supply Chain).
- Familiarity with GLP/GxP and experience in a compliance-driven environment.
- Knowledge of 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain).
- Chemical handling & safety practices understanding.
- Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) compliance awareness.
- Ability to read and interpret chemical labels and signage.
- Basic understanding of Good Documentation Practices (GDP).

Working Environment
The position requires working in a laboratory setting, adhering to regulated standards:
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use (e.g., lab coats, safety glasses).
- Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs (potential for 50 lbs as needed).
- Standing/stationary work for more than 25% of the time.
- Movement between labs, corridors, rooms, and buildings.
- Varying tasks (high pace, frequent bending, reaching, squatting).
- Vision requirements (near/far vision, depth perception, colour vision).
- Use of hazardous waste protocols, including handling, generating, storing, and labelling per regulations.
- Risk exposure to extreme temperatures, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.
Note: Some Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing may be required.
