Associate Lecturer - Floristry

Role: Associate Lecturer – Floristry

Location: Shuttleworth College – Old Warden

Salary/Benefits: Salary is £21.00 per hour

Hours/Weeks: 18 hours per week

Contract Type: Sessional – Hourly Paid

About The Role

We are currently seeking an Associate Lecturer in Floristry to join our Land-based Education department at The Bedford College Group.

As an Associate Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Teaching & Curriculum Delivery - Deliver high-quality Floristry teaching across Level 2 and 3 City & Guilds programmes, planning engaging theory and practical lessons that support learner achievement and progression.
  • Assessment & Student Progress - Monitor, assess, and track student performance through formative and summative assessments, providing feedback, reports, and interventions to help learners succeed.
  • Resource & Course Management - Develop schemes of work, order flowers and materials, coordinate resources with technicians, maintain teaching spaces, and complete all course-related administration accurately.
  • Curriculum Development & Student Engagement - Contribute to curriculum development, create new learning materials, arrange work experience and trips, interview prospective students, and support learner recruitment and progression.
  • Quality, Compliance & Professional Standards - Participate in internal verification and course reviews, manage student behaviour, and uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, health & safety, and continuous professional development requirements.

About You

  • Teaching Excellence & Learner Support - Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality teaching to learners of all ages and abilities, creating a positive, welcoming environment that supports achievement and progression.
  • Curriculum & Administrative Skills - Strong teaching and curriculum development capabilities, with the ability to plan effectively, complete administrative tasks accurately, and meet deadlines.
  • Communication & Teamwork - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and contribute positively to team objectives.
  • Professionalism & Safeguarding - Committed to safeguarding, maintaining appropriate professional boundaries, promoting the College’s reputation, and demonstrating reliability, punctuality, and high performance.
  • Flexibility & Continuous Development - Flexible approach to working, including evenings and weekends where required, with a current driving licence, willingness to travel, and commitment to ongoing professional and industry development.

What is an Associate?

Associates work on a short-term basis as assigned. They teach or provide support services, and they work with and are supported by core staff. As an Associate you will be issued with an Associate Agreement, under this Agreement period you will be eligible to work on assignments offered to you.

About Shuttleworth College

Shuttleworth College is set within the stunning location of Old Warden Park, near Biggleswade. It's a specialist land-based college, offering agricultural and environmental education, alongside animal sciences, equine studies and outdoor adventure all delivered within acres of parkland, farmland, lakes and woodland.

About The Bedford College Group

The Bedford College Group was formed in 2017 following the merger of Bedford College and Tresham College and is now the largest provider of education in the South East Midlands, with over 15,000 students passing through our doors each year.
