Associate Lecturer - Law - Manchester
Associate Lecturer – On-site & Distance Learning (Blended Learning, Distance Learning, Dissertation Supervision)
Hourly Details
Average weekly hours (not guaranteed): 10–15 Hourly rate (subject to role):
- £50.42 (Blended Learning)
- £86.44 (Distance Learning)
- £65.86 (Dissertation Supervision)
In addition:
- Rolled-up holiday pay of 12.07% per hour
- Christmas closure
Role Overview
School/Division: School of Criminology, Criminal Justice & Law / Department of Law Working Model: On-site at Manchester Campus and Distance Learning (Home-Based with occasional travel to the nearest office/campus)
Notes: This is a "worker contract" role. Eligibility: Applicants must be based in the UK. Hours are not guaranteed; lesson allocation will be determined by the school’s needs. No permanent remote contracts are available. If primarily home-based, the closest office/campus to your address will be listed as your official work location.
The Opportunity
Are you passionate about higher education and eager to share expertise? Arden University is seeking skilled professionals to join our pool of Associate Lecturers, supporting course delivery on a flexible, as-needed basis.
Key Responsibilities
Your work will depend on the University’s needs and your expertise. Assignments may be:
- Contract-based (task-specific)
- Semester-based (block teaching)
Key duties include:
- Blended Learning (BL):
- Deliver classroom-based sessions
- Engage students through online platforms
- Provide feedback and enhance the learning experience
- Distance Learning (DL):
- Lead interactive online sessions (via Zoom)
- Engage students through discussion forums
- Offer prompt feedback and support
- Marking & Assessment:
- Participate in standardisation exercises
- Undertake formative and summative marking with strict deadlines
- Supervision:
- Provide high-quality guidance for student projects and dissertations
- Authoring Content:
- Develop/revise engaging materials with copyright compliance
- Additional Duties:
- Participate in meetings, peer reviews, and staff development activities

About You: Essential Requirements
- Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in teaching and assessing students within the UK higher education sector.
- Proven track record of student-centred teaching (essential for DL roles).
- Up-to-date and relevant industry experience.
- Fellowship of Advance HE (or commitment to working towards it with Arden’s support).
Desirable:
- A dedicated teaching qualification.
- Postgraduate qualification (for postgraduate-level teaching).
