Role Overview

EBRD’s Office of the General Counsel (OGC) lies at the heart of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s (EBRD) mission to build sustainable and open market economies across its operators (Central and Eastern Europe, Southern and Eastern Mediterranean, Central Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa). Operating across 6 countries in Africa, EBRD deploys over €15 billion in annual financing, specialises in climate finance (renewables, green bonds, energy efficiency programs), and supports small-to-medium enterprises, infrastructure projects, and private sectors—focusing on sustainable development.

The OGC is responsible for:

  • Legal oversight of EBRD’s borrowing, lending, and investment transactions.
  • Develops legal frameworks for policy and regional initiatives.
  • Provides legal advice on institutional and administrative matters.
  • Manages the OGC Finance group, covering:
    • Debt issuance under EBRD’s Global MTN Programme and Commercial Paper Programme.
    • Capital market operations such as derivatives and repo agreements.
    • Treasury legal documentation in established and emerging markets.

This posting invites a driven and versatile lawyer to join the Associate Programme in EBRD’s London Office—a 3-year fixed-term opportunity beginning early September 2026.

Key Responsibilities

As an Associate in the OGC Finance group, you will:

  • Support EBRD's debt issuance activities (MTN, commercial papers) in international capital markets.
  • Advise on financial and capital market instruments such as derivatives, structured funding, and debt instruments in domestic and international jurisdictions.
  • Review & negotiate legal documentation and master agreements.
  • Collaborate on decision-making aligned with EBRD’s financial policies and emerging markets strategies.

Requirements & Qualifications

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
