Associate, OGC
Senior Vice President, Vice President, Director & Head of Contracting/Procurement (Affordable & Authorised Procurement for Conducting Commercial Transactions)
Role Overview
EBRD’s Office of the General Counsel (OGC) supports its mandate to build sustainable and open market economies across Central and Eastern Europe, Southern and Eastern Mediterranean, Central Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa. With €15+ billion of annual financing, EBRD leads climate finance, SME support, and infrastructure investments.
The Office of the General Counsel seeks an outstanding lawyer to join its Associate Programme, offering exposure to global legal, financial, and institutional work in a fast-paced international environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Associate (3-year fixed term) will:
- Support the OGC Finance Group, focusing on:
- Legal aspects of debt capital markets, including Global MTN, commercial paper programmes, and treasury operations.
- Derivatives, repo agreements, and master negotiable instruments (MNIs) for increased market engagement.
- Conduct legal research for international capital markets, draft legal documentation, and provide regulatory compliance advice.
- Work with international teams on policy development, risk management, and operational processes.
- Assume project leadership, working under tight deadlines with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Contribute cross-regional expertise to EBRD’s legal transition programs.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- A law degree (preferably from a leading university) and a postgraduate degree.
- 3–5 years of legal work experience, gained either:
- In private practice, handling debt capital markets, structured finance, derivatives, or commercial agreements.
- In an in-house legal team, with similar international transactional experience.
- Preferable proficiency in legal matters related to EBRD’s global regions, with cross-jurisdictional exposure (e.g., issue predominantly in Africa, Middle East, and/or emerging markets).
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); basic/advanced French or other key EBRD-relevant languages (e.g., Russian, Arabic) will be an asset.
- Interest in international development, willingness to engage extensively with EBRD’s operational regions.
