About The Role
Springer Nature, the publisher of Nature, is looking to recruit two Associate or Senior Editors for a new Nature Reviews journal – Nature Reviews Computing– that will launch in January 2027. Nature Reviews Computing will publish commissioned high-impact Review, Perspective and Comment articles covering the full spectrum of computer science and its applications, including topics such as hardware, architecture, networks and communication systems, theory of computation, computing paradigms, AI and machine learning, numerical computing, and applied computing.
In particular, beyond surveying individual fields and setting standards, the journal wants to stimulate dialogue and bridge gaps between disciplines by showcasing synergies across computer science as well as highlighting its translational relevance. It will also explore the intersections between computing and society, emphasizing the global role of computer science. Nature Reviews Computing should serve as an accessible, inclusive, long-term resource that offers a wide perspective for the future of the field.
Role responsibilities
As Nature Reviews Computing is a newly launching journal, the editors have the exciting opportunity to work with the Chief Editor to define and build this journal. Core tasks of the senior/associate editor role include:

- Commissioning reviews and opinion pieces
- Working closely with authors throughout the writing and revision process by providing feedback on synopses, developmentally editing first drafts, line-by-line editing the final manuscript pre-acceptance, and developing ideas for figures and other display items
- Organizing and managing peer-review
- Writing Research Highlights and other editorial content
- Liaising extensively with the scientific community through visits with researchers and international conferences
The ideal candidate will have:
- A PhD in any topic relevant to the journal. We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in either artificial intelligence research or theoretical computer science, but we would welcome applications from outstanding candidates in any area of computer science.
- Broad scientific knowledge
- The ability to absorb new areas of research, and identify new developments and research trends in fields beyond their immediate specialty
- Willingness to travel to meet scientists and learn more about them and their work; and to advertise the journal
- Demonstrable ability to edit text for sense, clarity, factual correctness, and language (which will be assessed during the interview process)
- Demonstrable writing ability
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Keen attention to detail
Previous editorial experience is helpful but not essential and full training will be given.
