Associate Planner
We are hiring for an Associate Planner at Carter Jonas.
Are you an ambitious and enthusiastic MRTPI-qualified Planner looking to take the next step in your career? You could come and join one of the largest and most successful planning teams in the region, forming part of a 15-strong Planning and Development team operating across the Eastern region. Based in Cambridge, you will work on projects throughout a diverse geographical area, stretching from the Norfolk and Suffolk coast through Lincolnshire, across to Milton Keynes and down to the M25.
The team advises a broad client base across a varied portfolio of work, including strategic urban extensions, major residential and commercial developments, research and development facilities, healthcare projects, leisure schemes, and rural and agricultural diversification opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional planning advice to a wide range of clients.
- Prepare, submit, and manage planning applications through to determination.
- Lead negotiations with local authorities, statutory consultees, and key stakeholders.
- Promote sites through the Local Plan process and prepare robust representations.
- Prepare and submit planning appeals, including supporting statements and evidence.
- Attend and represent clients at hearings, inquiries, and examination sessions.
- Organise and facilitate community engagement activities.
- Undertake planning and development appraisals and advise on development potential.
- Manage external consultants and specialist advisors.
- Support and mentor junior members of the Planning Team.
- Develop and strengthen client relationships while identifying new business opportunities.
- Work closely with colleagues across Carter Jonas to deliver integrated property and planning solutions.

About You
We're looking for a motivated planning professional who thrives in a client-focused environment and enjoys solving complex planning challenges.
What will it take to be successful?
- MRTPI qualified.
- Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience (PQE).
- Consultancy or local authority planning background.
- Experience managing projects, budgets, and client relationships.
- Strong report writing and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Full UK driving licence.
