Associate Programmer
Our Mission Radical Forge is a UK-based developer that has provided co-development services on a range of AAA and indie titles. In 2021 the company created their first original IP, 'Bright Paw', which was published on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One/Series S/X, Google and iOS by Rogue Games. We are currently working on our newest IP, Southfield, which you can look forward to playing soon!! Your Mission The role requires you to work collaboratively alongside other disciplines to carry out project work. We are seeking an enthusiastic team player with a solid programming foundation and a willingness and curiosity to keep learning. As an Associate Generalist programmer you should be eager to tackle a diverse range of tasks from gameplay to UI, to optimisation and bug fixing, depending on the project’s needs. You should have a good grasp of working in a game engine with an understanding of its various systems. You should be comfortable with 3D math to solve gameplay tasks. Associate Programmers report to the Lead Programmer. Skills & Experience Gameplay Systems - Able to work across a variety of gameplay systems such as character movement/controls, UI implementation, and audio implementation. Investigating Bugs and Issues - Can investigate and identify bugs in existing systems, and is able to make changes to implement fixes or communicate their findings. Task Management - Able to work with more senior members of code to assess scale and scope of tasks, as well as prioritisation of work. Keeping tasks up to date and communicating promptly with leads if anything is unclear or if any issues arise. Source Control - Experience with at least one industry standard source control system such as Git/Perforce etc. Game Engine Competency - Has experience in at least one industry standard game engine and understands its processes, including features outside of the coder role. Able to utilise this knowledge to communicate and work with other disciplines. Performance & Optimisation - Has an understanding of game optimisation constraints and aims to work within them. Has experience with working to identify or investigate performance issues and takes care to write performance code. Code Review - Participate in code reviews to discuss feedback on your own code, and be able to explain your approach. Able to review other’s code to the project standards. Requirements Game engine experience (eg Unreal, Unity) Knowledge of a scripting language (C++ / C#) Knowledge of an IDE (Rider, Visual Studio) This role is fully remote within the UK.
