About the Role

We’re recruiting a Project Director, Risk Management to lead AECOM's risk capabilities across major infrastructure projects across buildings, places, and programme management (B&P sector), based in our UK offices (London, Manchester, Birmingham, or Bristol).

As the risk management lead, you will:

  • Direct high-value projects and programmes, ensuring robust risk governance and decision-making support.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders, clients, and project teams to enhance risk awareness and alignment across supply chains.
  • Lead a team of risk consultants, shaping risk frameworks and best practices for UK-based projects with opportunities to expand globally.

Responsibilities

As Project Director, your key activities include:

Strategic Leadership & Leadership

  • Drive risk management for complex, high-stakes projects/programmes aligned with ISO31000 and professional risk/management methodologies.
  • Responsible for quality assurance of risk practices, bidding/risk mitigations for new business.
  • Foster trust by producing comprehensive risk reporting for senior leadership and decision-makers.

Technical & Analytical Expertise

  • Execute Quantitative Risk Analysis (QCRA/QSRA) using tools such as Monte-Carlo simulations, Primavera Risk Analyser, @Risk, Safran, and others.
  • Design contingency models and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee development of Risk Registers, Management Plans, and Mitigation Strategies.

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Mentor risk teams, improving capability in risk facilitation, assessment, prioritisation.
  • Engage sincerely with clients, helping align risk management with project goals and schedules.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Support cost/change management and project controls, ensuring risk inputs are integrated.
  • Work closely with dynamic teams (internal/external stakeholders) to produce risk-aware plans.

Requirements

Qualifications & Certifications

  • Relevant degree from a recognised university, or a risk management/certification such as MOR, APM Risk, or IRM.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert with risk tools (ARM, Xactium, RiskHive, Predict, Primavera Risk Analyser).
  • Quantitative Risk Skills: Hands-on experience in Monte-Carlo, Safran@Risk, or similar analytical models.

Experience & Competence

  • 10+ years in multi-disciplinary project environments with a focus on infrastructure, buildings, or programme management.
  • Proven track record of leading risk functions, implementing stakeholder-driven processes.
  • Travel flexibility: Ability to work across projects in different sectors and locations.
  • Demonstrated agile task facilitation and team mentoring.
  • Strong hard/soft skills: Accounts monitoring, APICs/Oxford Economics understanding, hybrid project control experience.
