About the Role
We are recruiting for a Project Director to lead our risk management team across our London, Manchester, Birmingham, or Bristol offices. As a key collaborator within AECOM’s Integrated Programme Controls team, the Project Director will oversee risk strategy and compliance for our major infrastructure projects.
This senior position is responsible for:
- Managing a team of risk consultants.
- Engaging senior stakeholders and clients.
- Ensuring consistency in risk appreciation, governance, and decision-making.
- Supporting high-value projects across the UK and globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead risk management for major infrastructure projects and programs.
- Work closely with project teams to implement best-practice risk governance.
- Provide risk insights during bid and proposal phases to secure new business.
- Perform risk assurance reviews to validate risk management compliance.
- Communicate risk data to senior leadership for informed decision-making.
- Author key reports to support strategic and executive-level stakeholders.
- Mentor and coach staff in risk management excellence.
- Facilitate risk identification, assessment, and prioritisation.
- Develop Risk Registers, Risk Management Plans, and Mitigation Strategies.
- Conduct Quantitative Risk Analysis (QCRA & QSRA), including Monte Carlo simulations.
- Design risk management frameworks tailored to projects and programs.
- Collaborate with cost, scheduling, and change management teams as needed.

Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will bring:
- A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised institution or a recognised risk management certification (e.g., MOR, APM Risk, IRMA).
- Demonstrable experience in cross-discipline project environments.
- Proficiency in industry-standard risk tools (e,g, ARM, Xactium, RiskHive, Predict, Riskahead).
- Technical expertise in conducting QCRA & QSRA, including:
- Safran, Primavera Risk Analyser, or @RISK tools.
- Proven ability to streamline risk management processes, aligning with:
- ISO 31000,
- Institute of Risk Management (IRM), or
- Association of Project Management (APM) methodologies.
- Wanting, not mere experience, but establishing a team of risk specialists.
- Flexibility to travel and engage across diverse sectors.
- Excellent facilitation skills to guide project teams.
- Strong understanding of engineering and construction management.
- Knowledge of current project management methodologies and tools.
